Portuguese Economic Journal

The Portuguese Economic Journal aims to publish high-quality theoretical, empirical, applied or policy-oriented research papers on any field in economics. The geographical reference in the name of the journal only means that the journal is an initiative of Portuguese scholars. There will be no bias in favour of particular topics and issues.

 

The Portuguese Economic Journal 2024 Conference is an international generalist conference in economics. Researchers from all fields of economics are invited to participate. Since its first edition in 2007, this annual conference has been a lively forum for exchange between researchers from all over the world.

The Portuguese Economic Journal 2024 Conference is organized by the Faculty of Economics, University of Algarve. The event is supported by two research centers: CEFAGE - Centre for Advanced Studies in Management and Economics; and CinTurs - Research Centre for Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being.

​

Faro is the capital of Algarve: The Southernmost region of continental Portugal. The Algarve is by far the most important Portuguese tourism destination. Its Mediterranean weather combined with magnificent beaches, pristine landscapes and tasty gastronomy makes it unforgettable for the visitor.

Call for papers

Submissions in all fields of Economics are welcomed (until 15 March 2024) at:

Instructions:

Papers should be written in English. The cover page should contain the following elements: article title, name of the author(s), affiliation(s), presenter, address(es), email(s), abstract (up to 600 words), keywords, and JEL classification codes. Applications to the Consultaccount Award should also be mentioned on the cover page.

​

The Portuguese Economic Journal is pleased to announce the Consultaccount Award for the best paper presented by a PhD student at its 17th Annual Meeting. The award consists of a certificate and a pecuniary prize of EUR 750. All students currently enrolled in a PhD program are eligible for this award. Candidates should clearly mention they are applying for the Consultaccount award on the cover page of their manuscript when submitting it to the conference. The conference’s Scientific Committee will select the winner, who will be presented with their award at the conference's final plenary session.

Reaching Faro…
The city of Faro is the provincial capital of the Algarve region located in the South end of Portugal, with a population of 60.000. Faro is located 280 km south of Lisbon and is connected by high-way to Lisbon and Seville (200 km). Faro can also be reached by plain and railway.

...by plane:
The nearest airport is Faro International Airport, which is about 5 km from the city. If you are flying into Faro, the easiest way to get to the hotel is by taxi, which costs around €12.0.


...by train:
Faro is located on the Southern Line and is connected to several cities by rail, with numerous services, including the Alfa Pendular service. Check the timetable and prices at www.cp.pt . Faro train station is about 5 minutes walk from the city centre.

Dolphin Watching Tour

We are pleased to invite participants of the 17th Annual Meeting of the Portuguese Economic Journal to a dolphin and wildlife watching tour in Faro on July 7th. Join a team of marine biologists on this tour and learn more about the local wildlife. Participants will have the opportunity to observe dolphins, seabirds, and potentially sharks and whales.

The cost of the tour is 40 Euros per participant. The Payment is in cash and must be made during registration on July 5th to facilitate payment to the tour company on your behalf.
